New pedestrian overpass bridge opens in Biloxi

Safety has always been a top priority for city leaders in Biloxi and a new walkway will make crossing Highway 90 a lot less dangerous.

Today city officials cut the ribbon on the brand new Biloxi Bridge which is near the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor.  The new pedestrian overpass connects the beach to the downtown area.

This $2.5 million project finished in 350 days which Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich says is all according to schedule. “Well, you can see the traffic and these are heavy duty traffic counts here and it seems like everyone is in a hurry so this gives you an easier way to stroll over. You can see the 400 hotel rooms right on that other side and of course restaurants and the harbor and those activities will be a natural thing.”

The pedestrian overpass has elevators that run from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. to make the bridge wheelchair accessible. To enhance security, cameras feeding back to the Biloxi Police Department have been installed.
