New park waiting for approval in Waveland
A new park in the Waveland community could become a reality very soon.
It would be located in a 100 by 100 foot lot that is state owned property located on the corner of Avenue B and Caspian Street. The city has applied through the Secretary of State’s Office to build a park. They are currently waiting on approval to clear the land.
Mayor Mike Smith says this approval should only take a few weeks. It is also going to be low cost for the city because they already have the playground equipment.
“I have had a lot of requests for a park here. Hopefully this turns into a bus stop as well so that the kids are protected and there are neighbors that have promised to be neighborhood watch on the park to make sure everyone is safe here and that good activities are going on,” Smith said.
The city has also submitted a request to put in a splash pad at the same location. They are also working to put in sidewalks along Avenue B.
