New graduation requirements in Mississippi
With the school year fast approaching, students are trying to make the most of their summer. Mississippi lawmakers are trying to make the most of their students’ future.
The Mississippi Board of Education proposed new graduation requirements starting with freshmen in the graduating class of 2022. The requirements would let high school students in Mississippi earn academic or career and technical endorsements along with their traditional diplomas.
One former high school graduate from DeSoto County feels this is a good thing all around for students. “I think it would be pretty neat. It’s gonna be a little different. Most people can excel or show their own needs honestly. If it makes a difference then more and more definitely I would have tried to achieve one of those.”
The proposal will now go into public comment for the next 30 days. Officials for the Board of Education say that this idea will also help parents better consider their children’s future.
