Multi-agency drug roundup in Jackson County
Eleven people are behind bars this afternoon and authorities say more arrests are on the way as a major drug sting continues in Jackson and Pearl River counties.
In a news conference today, Sheriff Mike Ezell said agents began pounding on the doors of nine suspects around 6 this morning. It happened in the Vancleave area known as “The Hill.”
At the same time, officers in Pearl River County went to the homes of two other suspect drug offenders. All suspects have been indicted by a federal grand jury on various and multiple drug charges and are said to have gang ties.
Sheriff Ezell says today’s arrests are expected to help not only residents in those areas, but other Coast cities and counties plagued with drug sales, robberies, and other related crime as authorities from several law enforcement agencies continue to make arrests throughout the day.
