Mississippi reports 1,646 new COVID-19 cases for the 5 days from June 17-21; death toll nearing 1,000

On Monday, the Mississippi State Department of Health reported a combined total of 1,646 new cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi for the five days from June 17 to June 21.

In this period there are 40 new deaths to report (2 of which occurred between May 25 – June 7, identified from death certificate reports).

Mississippi’s total of COVID-19 cases since March 11 now stands at 22,287, with 978 deaths.

There are currently 76 active outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities (where an outbreak is one or more cases among residents or staff).

The Mississippi State Department of Health is also reporting 485 persons currently in Mississippi hospitals with confirmed COVID-19 infection, with an additional 225 now hospitalized with suspected COVID-19.

The new COVID-19 data from MSDH comes after their daily reporting of new cases was been interrupted. The agency says they are working “to resolve problems in outdated software.”
