Mississippi Power prepares for Gordon

Mississippi Power is closely monitoring the development and progress of Tropical Storm Gordon.

Jeff Shepard with Mississippi Power tells News 25 customers can use the company’s online outage tools to report an outage, monitor the status of an outage, or receive updates by visiting the company’s online storm center.

With severe weather the possibility of power outages does greatly increase which is why Mississippi Power prepares for situations like a tropical storm year round. “We have requested additional resources to help our crews here in Mississippi so we will have some support from our northern division which is our Hattiesburg and Meridian areas. So, we will have some of those crews come to the south and also we have got about 100 contractors coming in from Alabama Power and they are going to stage in Hattiesburg today and so as Gordon makes its way through South Mississippi they will head down Highway 49 and they will join the restoration efforts as well.”

Also through the storm center, customers can access preparation resources and safety tips.
