Mississippi Power prepared for possible winter weather impacts across state

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) – Mississippi Power announced that its bill payment offices in Meridian and Hattiesburg will be closed Monday as the company prepares for possible impacts from the winter storm moving into the area Sunday night.

The company’s line crews are prepared to respond to possible outages and additional resources are being secured to help with restoration efforts if needed.

“The safety of our customers and our employees is our top priority,” said Company Spokeswoman Kaila Moran Griffith. “We’re working with local emergency management officials and we have plans in place to quickly and safely restore power to our customers. In the meantime, we encourage our customers to stay prepared and alert to changing weather conditions.”

In Mississippi Power’s Online Storm and Outage Center, customers can sign up to receive Outage Alerts, access the company’s Online Outage Map and receive helpful tips on preparing before, during and after a storm.

Some winter storm preparation tips include:

  • Install a smart phone app that will alert you to severe weather in the area.
  • Prepare a storm kit that includes flashlights, batteries, water, and nonperishable food items.
  • Dress in warm layers and stay indoors as much as possible.
  • Know how to safely operate a generator or space heater.
