Mississippi Legislative Session update

We are now in the tenth week of the Mississippi State Legislative Session with less than four weeks to go.

Here’s a look at some of the bills still alive as the session continues. House Bill 732 prohibits an abortion of a fetus once a heartbeat is detected except if the mother’s health of life is in danger. It passed 81 to 36.

The Criminal Justice Reform Act, House Bill 1352, clears obstacles for previous inmates to find work and prevents driver’s license suspensions for controlled substance violations and unpaid legal fees among other things.

Senate Bill 2827 gives local public officials a salary increase, including circuit clerks and county supervisors. If moved into law, fees collected by city and county officials would also increase to pay for the pay raises.
