Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic Round One

Today, 75 golfers from the Champions Tour teed things off at Fallen Oak in Biloxi for round one of the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. The first day of action is now in the books and one player stands above the rest.
It might not be who you think sitting atop the leaderboard, although household names like John Daly still came to play. Over on the side of the clubhouse, someone’s making a run at the top spot on 18, Pensacola native Joe Durant, working on his iron game and as Happy Gilmore would say ‘somebody’s closer,’ he’s already tied for the lead at five under.Finishes the round at six under par and no one would catch him the rest of the day.
Durant said, “We all love coming here so much. This is one of my favorite events, and it’s also almost a home event for me because it’s an hour and a half down the road. So it’s great to be here.”
John Daly said, “Yeah, I mean I don’t know what the leader is but, I don’t think anybody is going to shoot 10 or 9 under par in a round here. I mean you can, the greens are good. But you shoot five, six under par you’ve played really, really good golf here.”
Scott Hoch said, “Daly said that? Gosh, that must be what it is then. No, it’s hard to say. I think we’re going to have good conditions, and gosh I’d like to take 10-under right now.”
The second round tees off tomorrow at 8:50 a.m. from Fallen Oak. Durant’s round of 66 is the lowest he’s ever shot in seven total rounds at the MGRC.
