Mike Smith Wins Waveland Mayoral Election

The swearing in ceremony took place Wednesday for newly elected officials for the City of Waveland, just one day after the election.

The ceremony included the newly elected Mayor, Mike Smith, and four of the city’s aldermen, including Ward 4’s winner, Charles Piazza, who won a tie breaker Wednesday morning. City Hall was standing room only as the officials took their oaths. New Mayor Smith says he expects an easy transition from his fire chief position to the city’s Mayor.

Smith says, “It shouldn’t be that difficult. You know, working here for so long and being a part of that kind of stuff anyway, it should be an easy transition.”

Mayor Smith has previously served as the city’s fire chief for more than 20 years.
