MGCCC hosts spring commencement for Class of 2022

Today, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College celebrated its spring commencement at the Coast Coliseum.

The day began with the nursing and health professions graduation at 8:30 a.m. which consisted of almost 200 students.

It then followed up with the graduation of about 700 students graduating in a variety of associate degrees as well as receiving specific credentials and certificates that belong with their degree.

News 25 spoke with one of the students who says he is proud of himself and his classmates for making it this far. MGCCC graduate Caydon McKey said, “I’m pretty proud. I mean, we’ve all worked really hard to get here. It took a lot of work, a lot of studying and I mean I think we all did pretty good while we’re all sitting here today so.”

MGCCC Associate VP of Institutional Relations Christen Duhe said, “We’re incredibly proud of all of these students. Just seeing them grow since they came here two years ago and the things that they are doing – the scholarships that these students have received – it’s just truly incredible.”

McKey graduated with a degree in automation and controls technology and hopes to move up to Ingalls Shipbuilding or work in the maintenance department at Chevron.
