HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding awarded contract modification for DDG 1002 Sea Trials

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WXXV)- Ingalls Shipbuilding has been awarded a $99 million contract modification from the Navy to conduct Sea Trials for the Lydon B. Johnson, a Zumwalt-class destroyer.

Company leaders say the award demonstrates the Navy’s continued trust in Ingalls to conduct essential system testing and sea trials that support the Navy’s phased delivery strategy.

The ship first arrived at Ingalls in January 2022 for combat system installation, activation, and testing.

While at Ingalls, the destroyer is also undergoing modernization upgrades, including the integration of the conventional prompt strike weapon system.

Zumwalt-class destroyers feature an advanced electric propulsion system, a wave-piercing tumblehome hull, and a stealth design.

They are also equipped with advanced warfighting technology and weaponry.
