Methamphetamine drug bust in Harrison County

Millions of dollars’ worth of methamphetamine have been seized by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office this week and now a Texas man is behind bars.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested 36-year-old Esteban Bernardina-Betancourt of San Antonio on felony charges of trafficking methamphetamine.

Sheriff Troy Peterson says on Monday deputies conducted a traffic stop near mile marker 20 on I-10. Deputies searched the bed of Betancourt’s truck that was filled with dirt, concealing buckets and PVC pipes.

Inside the buckets and pipes, deputies found 140 one pound packages of meth, estimated to be in excess of millions of dollars.

Betancourt is charged with conspiracy to distribute and remains in custody of the DEA at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.
