Tips to get through the Seasonal Holiday Depression

The holidays are a time to enjoy family, friends, and food but many people deal with seasonal depression, stress, anxiety and other mental health issues.

To help cope with mental health issues during the holidays– Kay Daneault– Executive Director of Mental Health Association of South Mississippi– shares a couple of tips.
Stick to a budget– during the holidays people shop for food, gifts, and decorations– sticking to a budget will help ease stress.
Don’t abandon your habits when guests come to stay during the holidays– so stick to your habits to keep you on balance.
Also– its important to remember the good times shared with those who have passed away.

 

Kay Daneault– Executive Director of Mental Health Association of South Mississippi, says “Try to put some sort of positive spin on what’s going on can be helpful so maybe if you have lost a parent or a grandparent for example if you have some photographs of them you can pull those out an start to talk about those memories. ”

According to National Alliance on Mental Health  64% of people with mental illness report holidays make their conditions worse.
