Memorial hosting blood drive today
Memorial Hospital is hosting a blood drive today until 5:30.
They’ve partnered with Red Cross to start hosting monthly drives to encourage donors to routinely give blood.
The blood supply is at historically low levels and that means doctors may have to cancel surgeries and postpone treatments until the blood supply is back up.
The American Red Cross depends on regular donors to keep their blood banks filled and now we’re one trauma away from not having any blood left. Red Cross Account Manager for Southeast Region Denise Smith said, “Everybody hears from time to time that there’s low blood. This isn’t just a low blood supply. This is a life-or-death matter. We’re close to not having enough blood for patients that need it on a regular basis.”
Next month’s blood drive at Memorial Hospital will be January 12th from 10 to 3 p.m.
