Memorial Hospital Biloxi Board makes charitable donation to local nonprofits

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- Memorial Hospital Biloxi’s Board of Trustees presented more than half a million dollars to 14 local nonprofits working to serve the community.

A total of $511,000 was donated to local nonprofit organizations including Gulf Coast Community Ministries, Loaves and Fishes, the J-Grief Center, and more.

The board has contributed a portion of its earning to local nonprofits for more than 20 years.

The organizations receiving the funds support the health, well-being, and quality of life of people across the Coast.  St. Vincent De Paul Community Pharmacy Executive Director Sam Burke said, “It’s a game changer for our organization each year. Memorial here in Biloxi supports our mission to provide prescription medication and wellness education to those in need. St. Vincent de Paul Community Pharmacy has been around for almost 30 years providing prescription assistance to individuals in the community that otherwise wouldn’t be able to get their medicine. So, we work very closely with the health care providers in this area specifically the hospitals, free clinics, and a number of other agencies that also received funding today to make sure those individuals that have exhausted all their available resources and still don’t have the ability to get their medicine, that they receive it, so they don’t end up in the emergency room or worse. They’ll be able to get routine consistent medicine at no cost for those that are eligible.”

Health officials say the donations will help strengthen services and resources available to people throughout the community.
