MDOT kicks off ’12 Days of Christmas’ safety campaign
You may have heard of the ’12 Days of Christmas,’ but what about the MDOT version?
Drivers will receive daily holiday-themed safety messages until they wrap up their campaign on Christmas.
Ninety percent of crashes happen because of a driver’s decision, whether that’s impaired driving, districted driving, or speeding.
MDOT created their ’12 Days of Christmas’ as a fun way to engage the public and remind them of safety behind the wheel.
These messages are all evolved around Christmas-themed movies, songs, and characters.
This past Monday kicked off this year’s campaign with an announcement that read ‘Even Santa has to buckle up in Mississippi. It’s the law.’
As for what’s to come as the countdown to Christmas begins? MDOT Public Information Officer Katey Roh said, “I think we have some really good ones this year. I don’t want to spoil it or anything. If you want to follow along you can follow at Mississippi DOT on Facebook or Twitter. You can see it there. I don’t want to spoil it, but we do make an ‘Elf’ reference and that’s one of my favorite movies.”
The campaign will wrap up on Christmas.
MDOT also recommends residents leave early and give themselves more time for travel as the roads typically get busier during the holidays.
