MDMR accepting proposals for GOMESA

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is giving South Mississippi residents a say in the projects that may receive funding from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act.

MDMR will be accepting proposals for potential GOMESA funded projects. Proposals are restricted to projects within Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson counties and must meet one or more of the criteria listed:

  • Coastal protection
  • Coastal restoration
  • Hurricane protection
  • Reduction of damage to fish or wildlife
  • Coastal conservation management plan

Currently there are a number of projects being funded through GOMESA on the Coast including the beach storm water outfalls in Harrison County, the Mississippi Aquarium tramway, the Ocean Enterprise at the Port of Gulfport, and the MDMR marine fisheries dry laboratory.

Proposal deadline is June 13th and submissions can be sent to Russell Weatherly at or delivered to MDMR.
