Lottery Reaches $1.5 Billion

There continues to be a Powerball frenzy as the world record jackpot reaches $1.5 billion today. As News 25’s Shelby Myers reports, Coast residents are hoping to see the hype grab the attention of Mississippi legislators to finally bring a state lottery to Mississippi.
Most everyone can agree that winning $1.5 billion would be hitting the jackpot of life, literally, but figuring out what to do with all that moola, not so easy.
There was one question which seemed to produce a much easier answer out of Coast residents. Should Mississippi join the other 43 states and partake in the lottery? Now that Republican legislators in Alabama are filing a bill to put the question of having an Alabama state lottery in the hands of the voters, will Mississippi follow? Gulfport resident Loria Little sure hopes so. “Governor Phil Bryant needs to know that we want the lotto. The big casinos may not want it but we people need to vote for our lotto ‘cause I’ve done been to Florida and I had to come all the way here and I should not have to do that.”
Having to drive into Louisiana just to wait 20 to 45 minutes in line is one of the many reasons Coast residents are hoping that the lottery comes to Mississippi. Coast residents also see Mississippi missing out on revenue by not participating in the lottery.
Despite a culture based on casinos, it seems the lottery will have to wait for Mississippians.
The jackpot numbers will be drawn tomorrow and your chances of winning are 1 in 292 million.
