Kemper Refunds near Completion

All but $3.6 million of $377 million in rate refunds related to Mississippi Power’s Kemper County plant are back in the hands of customers.
Auditors told the Mississippi Public Service Commission that the utility complied with the refund order.
The remaining money represents uncashed checks that Mississippi Power issued. In some cases, the money belongs to customers who closed their account and moved away.
Northern District Commissioner Brandon Presley urged the unit of the Atlanta-based Southern Company to take additional efforts, including publishing names of people who haven’t cashed their checks, to convey refunds.
