Keesler Federal Credit and MS Aquarium honor local teachers

Keesler Federal Credit Union wanted to make teachers in South Mississippi feel extra special this week.

In honor of National Teacher Appreciation Week, Keesler Federal paired up with the Mississippi Aquarium and asked superintendents from 16 local schools to nominate teachers they thought would benefit the most from a behind the scenes 30-minute tour at the aquarium.

Ten schools nominated teachers for the exciting event, who brought along loved ones to the aquarium Friday afternoon.

Gautier High School Science teacher Cooper Kimbrell was one of the lucky nominees. “It’s really nice to work really hard and then you get an award like this. It was unexpected for me. I didn’t expect it at all but i got an email and a phone call so it does make you feel good.”

Kimbrell, who is a marine biology teacher, says he hopes to bring some of the things he learns on the tour to his students at Gautier High School.
