Jackson County Animal Shelter Adoption Drive

Downtown Ocean Springs may have been alive with art this weekend, but many animals also got some love as well.

The Jackson County Animal Shelter held an adoption drive on Government Street during both days of the Peter Anderson Festival.

Twenty animals were adopted during the first day of the drive and the shelter saw a steady stream of people interested in adopting all weekend.

Adoption Coordinator Maridee Mallette says this event benefits everyone involved. “The benefits are that you’re getting an animal that is going to love you unconditionally. You’re saving a life. It’s very rewarding to do that. You’re making room for other animals at the shelter, too.”

A total of 40 animals were adopted as a result of the two-day event.
