IMMS welcomes their first big group of visitors since the start of the pandemic

In Gulfport, the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies welcomes their first school group of visitors since the pandemic.

An elementary school from Arkansas traveled to the Mississippi Coast for a field trip. The trip was postponed last year due to COVID, but six weeks ago the principle at Carlisle Elementary approved for the students to go.

With parent permission from each of the students and everyone COVID tested, they felt safe enough to travel. Carlisle Elementary teacher Stephanie Sanders said, “We COVID tested everybody here so that we knew that we were safe to travel, that we didn’t have to worry about anything. We have carried our masks, worn our masks in places, we’ve done our part to keep everyone safe and healthy. These kids, they’ve suffered so much. We want them to have a normal life and a normal childhood. This is a part of their childhood to get out and to see.”

The group traveled with 24 students and 14 chaperones and teachers.
