HSSM hosting ‘Clear the Shelters’ adoption event

If you’re looking for a furry friend to accompany you this hurricane season, look no further than the Humane Society of South Mississippi.

This Saturday, News 25 is teaming up with HSSM for a special ‘Clear the Shelters’ adoption event.

Stop by the Humane Society in Gulfport anytime Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the $25 adoption special.

In order to keep all HSSM staff and adopters safe, the Humane Society is asking all guests to wear masks at all times in the facility, as well as practice social distancing in the lobby and thrift store.

Additionally there will be a limit of one adopter and one child per adoption counselor. Larger groups can request to meet their potential new pet outside.

Despite the shelter having to evacuate earlier this week due to the possibility of severe weather, there are still plenty of pets looking for homes. HSSM Development Director Katie King said, “We were able to get out 140 pets and transported to different partner shelters around the U.S. this past week, so we were really excited about that. We do still have 197 pets in-house at the shelter that are waiting for their forever homes. And that doesn’t include another 77 cats and 15 dogs out in foster care. So we still have plenty of babies looking for their forever home.”

Potential adopters can visit hssm.org/adoptable-pets to check out what pet or pets they may want to adopt.
