Hope Haven adult training classes

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, but the staff at Hope Haven Child Advocacy Center in Waveland wants to raise awareness year round which is why they created their Stewards of Children program.

The free program aims to make sure community members are able to recognize and prevent child sexual abuse. The fundamentals of training under the Stewards of Children program are appropriate not only for organizations which serve children directly, but for individuals and businesses who want to respond to the epidemic nature of this problem. Stewards of Children Teacher Lorraine Werner said, “If you don’t know how to respond if a child chooses to disclose to you, it could mean the difference between him shutting down or talking about it. Once they shut down it is hard to get them back open and talking about it again. It’s very important for children to get this stuff out in order to start healing.”

Training sessions are typically offered monthly at the Hope Haven office. Registration is required, but there is no fee for attending.
