Hancock County Sheriff speaks on the passing of Lt. Michael Boutte

Tears filled the room this afternoon as Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam spoke on the tragic death of Lt. Michael Boutte.

Lt. Boutte devoted 20 years to law enforcement and served in the United States Air Force and Marine Reserves. He was shot and killed Monday.

Sheriff Adam remarked that he was one of his older guys that provided guidance to the younger deputies, showing them how to professionally do their job and providing mentorship.

During the press conference, there were no additional details mentioned of the incident as it is being handled by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations. Sheriff Adam said, “We’ll never understand God’s reasoning for taking Mike from us at this moment. This loss will remain unhealed for quite some time. He was so committed to fairness, justice, compassion. He was just a professional in every way.”

Sheriff Adam did not release the name of the suspect, but says he hopes the suspect will be tried for capital murder.
