Gulfport PD launching ‘drive sober or get pulled over’ campaign

With Labor Day around the corner, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Gulfport Police Department are reminding drivers of the dangers of drinking and driving.

The ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign runs from August 19th to September 7th and law enforcement will show a zero tolerance policy when it comes to intoxicated drivers.

The NHTSA reported that in 2018, 10,511 people were killed in drunk driving collisions so there is so much work to do with this campaign.  Detective Jason Ducre with the Gulfport Police Department said, “If you feel different, you drive different. And even if you have just one drink, buzzed driving is drunk driving. If you see somebody or think somebody is drinking and driving, contact us or your local authorities. If you see something, say something. It could save someone’s life.”

The Gulfport Police Department wants to remind drivers that there are options instead of driving intoxicated such as car for hire programs like Uber or Lyft.
