Gulfport PD hosting civilian gun safety class

According to the Gulfport Police Department, accidents involving guns happen all too often across the U.S. So officials at the station are doing something to help.

The Gulfport Police Department will be hosting a civilian gun safety class on January 30th and 31st. This class is aimed toward first time gun users or people who haven’t used their guns in a while.

The class will provide basic fundamental training on how to safely secure your firearm, discuss Mississippi laws regarding guns, and how to unload a firearm.

The class will also have a shooting lesson on the last day. Lt. Paul Podlin with Gulfport PD said, “The firearm safety class is important because what we are trying to do is avoid accidents. We’re trying to avoid accidents in the home. We also want to protect civilians legally, when can you use a firearm and when can I not use a fire arm. There is a lot of information out there and we want to clarify that so that citizens don’t get in trouble.”

If you would like to sign up you can call the police department at 228-868-5703. The class is $25. You must be 21-years-old to take this class and provide your own firearm and ammunition.
