Gulfport man sentenced to 25 years for sexual battery

A Gulfport man has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars for sexual battery.

Fifty-five year-old Tommie Shannon pled guilty this week in the Harrison County Courthouse, the charge stems from an arrest in May 2015 after the mother of the victim reported that Shannon, a friend of the family, had sexually assaulted her daughter the evening before.

Given the nature of the crime, the 25 year sentence will be served day for day without the eligibility of probation or parole. Once released, Shannon must register as a sex offender.
