Gulfport House Destroyed In Fire

One Gulfport church pastor is counting his blessings today after he began the morning thinking his church was on fire.
Pastor Ken Braxton was driving near Progressive Baptist Church when he saw smoke over the building. When he pulled up, he realized it was an abandoned house on the property recently bought by the church in January and not the church.
Gulfport fire officials responded around 9:20 and extinguished the fire shortly afterward. They tell News 25 an initial investigation shows no one was in the house at the time the blaze broke out.
As for members of Progressive Baptist Church, they tell News 25 this could be a blessing in disguise. “It was something we were in limbo with for the house. Considering the condition of the house, it was something that we knew we could not have obtained so we were looking for situations to go on and condemn the house and to demolish it. Evidently, someone has done that for us,” said Pastor Braxton.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
