Gulf Coast Veterans Affair System receives five-star rating
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- The Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System is once again earning national recognition for quality care.
The Biloxi-based Veteran Affair System received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in its 2026 overall hospital quality star ratings report, finishing with another top score in back-to-back years.
The national ratings measure hospitals across the country in areas like patient safety, mortality, re-admissions, patient experience, and timely care.
The five-star designation is the highest rating possible from CMS and places the Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System among the nation’s top performing healthcare organizations. GCVHCS Executive Director Stephanie Repasky said, “so, I’m incredibly proud of the team of providers that we have here. We achieved five stars overall quality satisfaction and overall patient care for the first time ever last year on the CMS ratings and this year we sustained that which is quite a feat. I’ll say that does not happen by accident, that happens when we work as a team, really mission focused on taking care of the patient, focused on providing quality care consistently. And here, we have a philosophy of really having a physician and nurse co-led teams to drive our quality-of-care initiatives but the rating also includes patient satisfaction, includes risk reduction, infection control and that means that the entire organization needs to work as a team collaboratively and the whole team has responsibility for that rating. So, that’s why I’m very proud of the work that we do day in and day out taking care of veterans but at a very high-quality level with safe care.”
GCVHCS Chief of Medicine Stephen Boskovich said, “Nick Saban is famous for talking about the culture of excellence but how it takes buy-in across the entire vertical of the organization to the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Although this isn’t college football, health care is very similar the concept is the same. It requires buy-in across the entire vertical from top to bottom in a commitment to excellence in the veterans that we serve. I think driving in here today you passed through our great national cemetery and saw the flags, very somber reminder of a recent holiday in Memorial Day. But again, for all the veterans out there it is our privilege to care for you. We are here for you and committed to the best we can do for you so thank you.”
