Fundraiser for Deanna Martin’s Children

A fundraiser, called BBQ in the Park, will be held Saturday, November 15th at Jones Park in Gulfport to benefit the children of single mother, Deanna Martin, who died suddenly in late September.

Martin, a resident of St. Martin and a popular employee at Island View Casino, was the mother of a teenage girl and twin 7-year-old boys. The fundraiser at Jones Park has been organized by family members and friends, who are dedicated to assisting Martin’s children.

There is no charge for participating in the event, which will include live music. Plates of barbecue will be sold for $10, and special raffles and a silent auction will be held beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting until 6 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to assist Martin’s children.
Area businesses have donated a variety of items for the auction, including hotel stays, golf, and fishing trips.

Among the premier auction items are three special-issue 2014 World Series commemorative baseballs signed by San Francisco Giants pitcher and World Series M.V.P., Madison Bumgarner, outfielder, Hunter Pence, and catcher, Buster Posey. The baseballs were signed during the World Series and were donated by Biloxi native and Giants scout, Roy Lee Elder, who has also provided letters of authenticity to verify the signatures.

Special tailgating events will be held and children are encouraged to attend. Anyone wishing to make a donation or to donate silent auction items is asked to call the Flower Basket Florist in Biloxi, (228) 432-2546.
