Free summer meals for kids

Today kicked off the Free Summer Meals for Kids program in the Harrison County School District.
Breakfast is served from 7 to 9 and lunch from 11 to 1 until July 28th. Meals like spaghetti, nachos, and hamburgers will be served to kids 18 and under. You do not have to be in the district in order to receive a free meal.
Officials say this is a chance for kids to eat healthy and also interact with their peers. Crossroads Elementary Cafeteria Manager Tammy Marion said, “You have a lot of kids out there who maybe their parents work and they’re eating lot of microwave foods. Things that are quick to fix and safe to fix at home and so here they can come and they can get a very well balanced meal. They’re going to have their milk, their fruit, their vegetable for lunch. For breakfast, they’re going to have a hot meal.”
The schools offering the free meals are Crossroads Elementary, Harrison Central Elementary, Lyman Elementary, North Gulfport Middle, Three Rivers Elementary, West Harrison High, and North Woolmarket Elementary and Middle.
The program runs through July 28th with the exception of July 3rd and 4th.
