Former President Bill Clinton speaks at rally in Tupelo in support of Scott Colom

TUPELO, Miss. (WXXV)- Former President Bill Clinton was in Mississippi Friday to campaign for Democratic Senate candidate Scott Colom ahead of midterms.

The president delivered a 40-minute speech at the Link Centre in Tupelo to rally support for Colom, who is trying to defeat incumbent Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith and Independent Ty Pinkins.

Colom received a late burst of cash and support from Democrats, including a $1.2 million ad campaign from Senate Majority PAC as well endorsements from former Vice President Kamala Harris, who campaigned with him in Columbus last week.

Colom also received support from former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who appeared with him on the Gulf Coast. President Clinton said, “Scott understands the importance of working together. He has strong convictions, but he’s willing to sit down and talk to people who don’t share them all. That’s a useful combination in a senator.”

Colom’s team has previously stated they believe the race for Mississippi’s U.S. Senate seat will be a close one.
