Former Miss Mississippi from Coast mourning husband killed in Alabama
Former Miss Mississippi Christine Kozlowski is in mourning today after her husband was killed in Montgomery, Alabama over the weekend.
News outlets in Alabama say Thomas Hand Jr., who married Kozlowski in 2016, was shot Saturday afternoon in the 3100 block of Texas Street, which is a residential neighborhood.
Montgomery Police arrested Jeremiah Walker, 17, at the scene and charged him with capital murder.
The underlying charge is a shooting in the presence of a child under 14. The Hands have a 2-year-old son.
The investigation is ongoing.
Kozlowski Hand, a Southern Mississippi graduate, was crowned Miss Mississippi in 2008. She and Hand also are expecting a second child due in August.
Kozlowski Hand said in a Facebook post that services for her husband would be in his hometown of Metairie/greater New Orleans area.
She also said their business, Hand Nutrition, will continue to service Montgomery area customers, but that she was relocating the company to her hometown of Biloxi.
Kozlowski Hand’s sister, Danielle, has started a Go Fund Me campaign to raise money for her nephew, Roman, and the baby to be born in August.
Danielle Kozlowski wrote on the page, “The funds raised by this account will go toward helping pay for Roman and the baby’s future expenses.”
