Flooding on Highway 49 in Stone County
One major corridor linking South Mississippi to the rest of the state is open again this morning after flood waters forced all lanes of Highway 49 in Stone County near the Red Creek area to shut down for a few hours yesterday morning.
Waters from Red Creek flooded onto the grounds of the Perk Beach RV Park, leaving people clinging for dear life as rescuers rushed into get them to safety Sunday.
The nearby Dollar General store also flooded with workers reporting the water to be neck high in the store.
MDOT is also reporting that state route 26 between Interstate 59 and Highway 49 has reopened in both directions after being shut down for a few hours yesterday.
