Fit after feasting

When the Christmas season is over, many of us wind up with lots of gifts and presents and some with unwanted holiday weight gain.
Family, friends, and food are all common ingredients for any holiday gathering. With the average American consuming 7,000 calories on Christmas Day alone, you could walk away from the holidays with a little more than you bargained for: extra weight. Anytime Fitness Trainer Donnie Ray said, “It is a hard time of the year with the food and what not. Holidays with the family.”
And it all adds up, but lots of us try to fight those extra pounds by cutting back on calories after the holidays and making the all-to-common New Year’s resolution to get fit with the best of intentions, intentions that often fade away just a few weeks into the new year. Anytime Fitness Martial Arts and Fitness Instructor Tracy Canary said, “Sometimes they come in here, they work out for a couple of months and they realize this is really hard work. You have to keep at it. They don’t see results as quick as they want to and sometimes they slip up, but the serious ones who want goals and results, they tend to stick around.”
Regular exercise is a critical part of the equation when it comes to keeping a healthy weight and lifestyle and it’s something you can do year round. “Little tiny things like when you’re going to work, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Don’t park so close to the door, park a little ways down the parking lot, take a walk. It’s the little things that make the difference,” said Canary.
A few fitness facilities, like Anytime Fitness in D’Iberville, are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and this location has a kiosk where you can get a custom work out suited just for you. “Every class has three trainers on the screen, a beginner, an intermediate, and an expert and you follow each other on the screens.”
As they say: no pain, no gain, but if you want to step into the new year a little lighter and a little more fit, it’s worth it.
