First Graders Sing Their Spelling Words

Who doesn’t like to have fun while they’re learning?
The music teacher at Quarles Elementary School in Long Beach is masking learning how to spell with music by teaching students songs that also help them spell certain words.
Today first graders showed off their stuff and had a performance so parents could see the innovative way their children’s teachers are helping them learn.
School leaders tell News 25 they’re focused on giving their students the best education possible. They find kids are more engaged when they’re having fun.
Principal Dr. Jan Hansen said, “We work hard but when it is presented in a fun manner, boy we work that much harder and that is the beauty of Mrs. Raulston. She has been able to put fun into all that they’re learning and they’re spelling. I guarantee you they will never miss those number words on a spelling test.”
Music is something all students at Quarles Elementary participate in. Every nine weeks each grade level has a performance to show what they’ve learned.
