Firefighters honored for boat rescue

A special recognition took place at tonight’s Biloxi City Council meeting, honoring the three Biloxi firefighters that responded to the scene of the boating accident that took place on Friday at the Biloxi Bay Bridge.

Mayor FoFo Gilich presented Captain Brian Rouse and firefighters Sammy Jenner and Robert Romero Certificates of Valor of the life-saving off-duty assistance the trio provided. News 25 spoke to Councilman George Lawrence, whose daughter and son-in-law were on board the boat during the accident.

Lawrence says he was so thankful the trio was there at the right place at the right time. “They got them in the boat and they’re both in the hospital, doing well, thank goodness, but to have people like that to come out to help you, it’s like I told everybody, you see that all the time on TV, but it personally touches you, you realize how much they do all the time. So, we have to thank them for being there and they were able to help them save two people.”

Lawrence says he was able to take his daughter home from the hospital today and is going to be okay and his son-in-law has a laceration to his scalp and is also expected to be okay.
