Fire Engulfs House in Gulfport

Tornado watches and thunderstorms spread throughout South Mississippi today and lightning is being blamed for a house fire in Gulfport.
Residents along the 11,000 block of River Bend Drive in Gulfport looked on as a fire raged through one home in their neighborhood and then spreading to another.
The home, which was for sale, burst into flames around three this afternoon. Neighbors say they heard thunder crack and believe the house was struck by lightning. The fire was so intense it spread to a neighboring house where one resident and her pets were home. She says she heard a large bang and when she opened the garage door it instantly filled with smoke.
Next door neighbor Justin Campo said, “And my dad called me and said, ‘quick, quick, quick, get home. There is a fire next door and is about to spread to our house.’ The bus driver couldn’t get down the street it was so flooded. It was one truck that blocked us. So she said, ‘you guys who have fires and you guys that live down that neighborhood, get out now and you are running and booking it.’ So, I guess we had to get home. “
No one was injured in the fire. Neighbors were also able to get their pets to safety as well.
