Federal funding granted for transportation improvements in Mississippi

More than $51 million in federal funding is headed to Mississippi for three major transportation improvement projects.

U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith announced the U.S. Department of Transportation has approved $51.1 million through the Build Grant Program for projects in Rankin, Hancock, and Harrison counties.

The funding includes $24 million for safety and capacity improvements along U.S. Highway 80 in Brandon, more than $22 million to expand truck parking and improve freight technology at the Hancock County Welcome Center along I-10, and $5 million to widen Mallett Road in D’Iberville, adding lanes, intersection upgrades, and new crosswalks.

Hyde-Smith says the projects will improve safety, support economic growth, and help meet the transportation needs of Mississippi’s growing communities.
