Governor Reeves gives update on rural health program

Mississippi is getting a bigger than expected boost to improve rural health care.

The Trump Administration has approved nearly $206 million for the first year of the state’s rural health transformation program, about six million dollars more than expected.

State leaders say the first $81.7 million in grants will help expand the tele-health, upgrade healthcare technology, and address gaps in rural care.

The program includes workforce recruitment, psychiatric emergency services, a statewide health information exchange, and pilot programs focused on obesity, prenatal care, and expanded behavioral health services.

Governor Reeves say that in this first application window for the program, many Mississippi-based health care organizations applied for funding.

Reeves specifically thanked President Trump, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr, and Dr. Oz for making this increase in funding possible.
