Family of 16-year-old shot in Biloxi speaks out
A weekend shooting in Biloxi has a 16-year-old girl fighting for her life.
High school junior Kira Walker was shot in the head Saturday night as she was attempting to leave a party in the area of Rachel Drive and Terrace Court.
Now, her family is speaking with WXXV about Kira’s current condition and the long journey ahead.
Her cousin, Ambreia Skinner, has been at the hospital by Kira’s side the whole time. Skinner says her condition has not changed much but she is alert and responsive.
Skinner describes her young cousin as a straight-A student who loves her family and especially her dog, making this time even harder. “She’s loving. She’s just amazing. Like she really is just amazing. Most of all she is a fighter. She’s fighting.”
Skinner says she has been in a state of disbelief since she received the phone call, telling her Kira was shot.
While they are praying for Kira’s recovery, they also want to see someone held responsible. “I was in shock. I was angry. I’m still angry, because how can this happen to her? Why did this happen to her? She didn’t deserve that. I’m just so angry. I am hurt. We need prayers. We definitely need the tips. Everybody involved needs to be held responsible. We need to see that. And we would literally like to see it soon.”
With medical bills growing, Skinner has set up a GoFundMe that will benefit Kira and her mom. Nearly $2,000 of the $20,000 goal has been raised. You can find the GoFundMe by clicking here.
