Excellence in Education Awards

Over 20 students received $16,000 in scholarships this morning during the Excellence in Education awards ceremony.
Biloxi and Gulfport Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual event in Gulfport. Students who succeeded both academically and in the community were honored during the ceremony.
Organizers tell News 25 these students serve as excellent role models to younger kids on the Gulf Coast. Chamber of Commerce volunteer Kathy Springer said, “The other students will see these students making their plans for college and making plans for their future and winning some scholarship dollars like this and it’s very helpful they don’t even realize that they are influencing the younger kids coming up behind them.”
Sponsors of the scholarships include Bancorp South, Gulfport Main Street Association, Mississippi Power, Merit Health Biloxi, the Insurance Center, and Steward Sneed Hewes.
