Evictions can restart June 1, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves says

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves says that as of June 1, landlords can again start evicting tenants.
He suspended evictions several weeks ago because people were losing jobs during the coronavirus pandemic. Reeves announced the change Wednesday, saying people might need time to arrange their finances.
Mississippi still has high unemployment, but businesses are starting to reopen.
The state superintendent of education told lawmakers Wednesday that improvements need to be made in distance learning, including better internet access in some areas.
The Health Department says Mississippi has topped 10,000 confirmed cases of the virus. At least 465 people have died from it.
