Escaped Drug Suspect in Custody

The drug suspect who escaped custody at the Harrison County Courthouse in Gulfport earlier today is now in custody.
Police located and arrested 20-year-old Kimaz Carter on 21st Street in Gulfport around 7:20 p.m. Carter attended drug court at the courthouse earlier today where he was ordered to be taken into custody by the judge. As police escorted Carter to a jail transportation vehicle, Carter pushed the nearby deputy and fled on foot. He managed to flee the scene while wearing a waist belt restraint.
Theresa Evans, owner of Lady T’s Beauty Salon in Gulfport, said, “I was in the middle of doing someone’s hair and I saw movement real fast. Next thing I knew, there was cops and dogs everywhere. They seemed to have got on the scene very, very quickly. He ran so fast past the shop until you really couldn’t see anything, just movement.”
Carter is now being charged with felony escape and held on a $100,000 bond.
