Emergency Work for Oyster Fishermen

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announces emergency work for oyster fishermen. This is part of an emergency resource recovery program in response to yesterday’s opening of the Bonnet Carre Spillway.
MDMR will hold informational meetings on Wednesday at 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Bolton Building. Those who qualify include commercial fishermen who had a license in 2011 and commercially harvested oysters at least one year prior to 2011.
The program will take place in phases and will pay fishermen through disaster funds. MDMR Executive Director Jamie Miller says the program will relocate live oysters to areas that will benefit our oyster resource.
