Emergency Action Plan at Coast Colleges

Any time a tragedy hits a college campus it shakes the students and staff of schools across the country.
Today, News 25 caught up with MGCCC’s Perkinston campus to see how they are prepared in case similar situations were to happen on school grounds. Executive Vice President of Administration and Finance Michael Heindl says MGCCC has a sanctioned, trained police force at all nine locations. There is an emergency action plan for each campus that faculty is trained in.
“We also have an emergency notification system on the college campus that sends emergency notifications out to all of our employees, all of our students. We do that through text messages, emails, the college website, social media and phones as well. We also have phones placed in each college classroom to let students know what to do in the event of an emergency taking place,” said Heindl.
Over at USM’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach, code blue emergency phones can easily be spotted throughout campus. There is also an active shooter training video on the school’s security web page.
