Dr. Jay Willis announces Pascagoula mayoral campaign

On Thursday, current Pascagoula Mayor Dr. Steve Demetropoulos announced on Facebook he will not be running for re-election this spring.

Following this announcement, Dr. Jay Willis declared via a press release Saturday that he will be throwing his hat in the ring for mayor of Pascagoula.

Dr. Willis is a retired local dentist and native to Pascagoula. After retiring from dentistry, Willis formed Willis and Associates LLC to advise Mississippi dentists and recent dental school graduates on the formation and transition of dental practices.

Willis is also a former school board president of the Pascagoula Municipal School District, serving on the school board from 1992 to 2000 and helped in the subsequent construction of the new Pascagoula and Gautier high schools. “I made the decision to run with a great deal of prayer and consideration and discussion with my family. And I think now’s the right time for my family and for me- for me to step up and offer myself as a candidate for mayor of Pascagoula. The best thing about Pascagoula is the feeling of home. And we have so many friends here who come from other places and move to Pascagoula as adults and that’s what they tell us.”

The primary elections will be held in April and the general election will be June 8th.
