Director Bill Holmes Retires from Coliseum

Today, Bill Holmes walks out of the coliseum doors for the last time as its director.
Retirement for Holmes begins tomorrow and today he told News 25 he wants to say “Thank You” to all the people who have supported him the past 38 years and who have helped make the coliseum what it is today.
One of the things he is most proud of is helping those who came to the coliseum as an emergency shelter during Katrina and the recovery thereafter.
Holmes says while he is looking forward to retirement, it’s been his pleasure serving the people of the Gulf Coast. “Down there, they called me the king of the little people because if somebody had a problem and I could help them, I would try to help them. That’s what we’re put on Earth for is to try to help one another and try to make it a better place to live than when we found it. So, that’s what I tried to do and I think we were successful at doing it. I know we couldn’t please everybody all the time, but damn if I didn’t try.”
Matt McDonnell will take Holmes’ place as director of the Coast Coliseum.
